Report on Kolkata Roadshow held on 18th - 19th April, 2001

Kolkata Road Show and the 9th in the series of such shows was held on 18th and 19th April 2001, at Hotel Great Eastern Kolkata. 45 Component manufacturers participated in the Road Show and more than 1,500 Footwear Manufactures including Artisans & ME's visited the show. The show was inaugurated by Shri Jawahar Sircar, Secretary, Dept of Commerce & Industry Govt. of W. Bengal in the presence of Shri S. S. Kumar, Chairman, Council for Leather Exports (Eastern   Region), Shri S. P. Roy Burman, Chairman, Khadim Group of Companies & Mr. R. N. Singh, Sr. Vice President, Bata India Ltd. Batanagar and other distinguished members of the trade and industry. This year an extensive drive was undertaken to reach the smallest artisans / ME's. One week prior to the Road Show leaflets were distributed by four persons employed for the purpose in every manufacturing cluster of Kolkata and surrounding areas. This drive helped in reaching almost each and every individual shoemaker in the area. Apart from this banners in the local language were also put up at strategic points and sufficient press advertisements were also released. During the inaugural Ceremony a special IFCOMA award was presented to Shri S. K. Bhadra, a pioneer in the footwear trade, for his contribution to the growth of the Footwear & Component industry in West Bengal. All the components related to manufacturing of footwear and leather goods were on display in the Road Show. The visitors appreciated Components on display and appreciated the efforts of NLDP & IFCOMA in holding such shows and also expressed a strong desire that this event should be held every year to benefit the smallest shoemaker in the area.
