18th BSM AT KOLKATA - 2004

 
IFCOMA organized its 18th BSM in Rangmanch at Swabhumi Heritage, Kolkata, on the 14th and 15th of March 2004. This was also the 4th exhibition at Kolkata. The BSM cum Exhibition was inaugurated on the 14th March 2004 jointly by lighting of lamps by Mr. S.S.Kumar, the Chairman, CLE, Mr. S.P. Roy Burman of M/s, Khadim, Mr. A.H.M Ehsanuzzaman, Sr. Vice President, Bata India Limited, Mr.S.B.Dey, Director of M/s. Sree Leathers and Mr.A. K. Bhargava, DGM-SIDBI.


Mr Mani Almal, President IFCOMA in his welcome address informed of the association activities and added that IFCOMA plans to open a One stop training cum resource centre with design and development facilities for Last and soles at Kolkata and the proposal is being made and circulated. He further added the IFCOMA BSM would now be larger as FOOTWEAR manufacturers can now also participate in the national and international events. This collective participation is expected to give new thrust in the growth of footwear and component industries. He requested the State and central Govt. to assist for the said centre in the different part of the country.

Mr.S.S.Kumar insisted on bringing in continuous modernization to improve quality for import substitution & appreciated IFCOMA for taking up this task. With the large global footwear marketers showing souring interest from India the country is expected to get good business, he said and further added that CLE is seriously working to bring more global buyers to India as was done for M/s Wal-Mart during 2003. He further requested the leading Kolkata footwear manufacturers and marketers to plan for footwear exports from eastern region as there is huge market potentials.

Mr.A.H.M Ehsanuzzaman in his address mentioned about Bata’s role to always patronizing the domestic footwear components industry and asked IFCOMA to emphasize on the component manufacturers to ensure quality and timely delivery, as these are the two important parameters for growth of the industry. He asked IFCOMA that the industry should also make available indigenous Sole Moulds of International standard as they are forced to imports mould from Italy in absence of quality producer in our country.


Mr.S.B.Dey insisted on quality improvement and proposed the idea that the footwear manufacturers and marketers should have a common platform to address their problems and plan growth in line with other states. He said the footwear market is growing in the eastern region and an institution or a training cum service centre is urgent needed to up grade the tiny and small footwear manufacturers.

Mr.A.K.Bhargava informed the gathering of their various financial schemes related to modernization, new units, finances against supplies to reputed buyers, market promotion. etc and requested the SSI to contact their Kolkata office for financial assistance. He further added that SIDBI can also support with any nodal agency to assist the cluster development and also for the technical training or seminar for skill up gradation for improvement in quality which will lead the industry to growth.
