VISITOR PROFILE

Over 1,000 visitors visited the fair during the two-day meet. These included visitors from Footwear, Saddlery, Leather goods and leather sectors. About 70% of the visitors were from the organised and small-scale sectors and the rest from the unorganised / artisan sector. All the visitors showed keen interest in the displayed items and visited every stall on both the floors of the Hotel. Each and every visitor appreciated the efforts made to organise this kind of show for the first time in Kanpur. The staff of the organised sector also appreciated this effort as it was their first chance to visit such a show although their top bosses do visit Delhi & Chennai fairs. The interaction with them and their one to one meetings with the exhibitors was very fruitful. All the people from the trade wanted such shows to be organised twice a year.

BUSINESS TRANSACTED

The two-day event was very successful for all the participants and business/ enquiries worth over Rs.2.5 crores have been generated. It is expected that another similar amount of business will also be transacted in the the coming few months.

The event was widely covered by the local media. All the major local newspapers covered the event including, Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala, Aaj, Rashtrya Sahara, Pioneer etc. The local City cable channel also covered the event.

OBSERVATIONS

Kanpur has been a major center for Leather and footwear mostly chappals for the last many decades. For the last few years it has started coming up as a major center producing Closed Footwear. A healthy trend seems to be towards this particular section of footwear. The response and the enthusiasm shown by the the visitors shows that it may not be long before this area surpasses Chennai in production and emerges as the forerunner in footwear production, apart from saddlery and other leather goods.
