7th Buyer Seller Meet at Kanpur on Sept 2000.

IFCOMA 7th Buyers Seller Meet cum Exhibition was organized under the NLDP assisted programme at Kanpur which broke old records and has the highest ever number of 72 participants from all over India.  Both the Halls of Hotel Land Mark was crowded and more than 2000 shoe manufacturers / component dealers visited the BSM held on 20th - 21st Sept 2000. The business to the tune of Rs.1.50 cr.’s been reported and strong recommendation for having BSM again next year in a larger area.

 

The sudden change in the programme of Shri D.K.Mittal JS MOC was informed and the message received from him was published in the IFCOMA supplement published by the news paper "Dainik Jagran" on the 20th Sept.

IFCOMA President Mr. Mani Almal on 20th September at 11.00 A.M. jointly by lightning of Lamps.

Mr.Karan Anand Secretary IFCOMA welcomed the Honorable Guests and requested them for their support in the building of footwear and component sector of India. He strongly pointed the adverse decision taken by CLE and submitted the annual report before Shri Mirza who is the Vice Chairman of CLE. The negative decision “to have a separate chapter and

panel in CLE for Footwear Components ” was taken with surprise by the IFCOMA members who has all along been assured of all supports.

Mr. Mirza was astonished to read the contents and informed the gathering of his absence in the CLE meeting. He however, assured that the decision would be reviewed in the next meeting and requested the senior members of CLE present in the inaugural function to support for a separate Chapter and a panel for Footwear Components and Accessories, other then Shoe upper, for promoting the non leather components. "This is the world trend and there is no reason why we are avoiding this important issue" said Mr. Anand.

During the inaugural function the prestigious IFCOMA EXCELLENCE AWARD– 2000 was presented to Shri Jane Alam by Honorable Shri Irshad Mirza for his excellent contribution to the footwear industry. Shri Jane Alam is well known in the footwear trade and highly regarded for the dedicated support for the growth of footwear industries at Kanpur.

Last year, IFCOMA AWARDS were presented to Shri T.R.Sehgal of M/S Malik Traders and Shri Nazam of M/s Pioneer Tanners, for being the oldest footwear manufacturers and tanner at Kanpur.

Prof. Mathur in his address, informed of the wide infrastructure set up and the expertise for the research and development activities carried out under the DMSRDE and DRDO for the defence requirements of shoes for the Army. He stressed the need of shoes with the latest components and accessories to withstand various climatic conditions at the border areas.“ Price is not the constrain for quality components and accessories” said Prof. Mathur in reply to the point earlier raised by Mr Karan Anand on the purchases made by defence units.

Prof. Mathur was also of the view to adopt new technologies and materials to develop Army Boots in the decades old DMS boots being produced and purchased by the defence departments. He also informed of their closer interaction with IIT Kanpur for various R & D work on footwear and moulds.

To the crowded gathering Prof. Mathur stressed upon to “Change the mind set of fear of domination by other country in product development and impressed upon to have integrated set up for Quality, Design and Technology. During the address he further cited the experience of his visit to a unit where the production and quality control of international standard are best controlled by the workers themselves and has no supervisor for it. “Data base of members with production details is needed to up grade the quality of footwear components” asked Prof. Mathur and assured IFCOMA for regular interaction and support in the Research and Development work.

On R&D and HRD activities Mr Almal President IFCOMA informed “This is the first time IFCOMA took the initiative of interaction with the highest institutes & the govt. departments recognized for the R&D work. The objective is not only to bring the most needed awareness of its importance amongst the members but also to resume R & D work on footwear components and accessories.”

He further added “We have NLDP support with FDDI to gear up the Research and HRD work and therefore, a team for collective efforts should be made immediately. It can consist of IFCOMA – FDDI with IIT and DMSRDE, both at Kanpur with highest level representatives to resume R & D work in this important sector ”.He also briefed the gathering with the IFCOMA national & international level plans & proudly informed that exports of footwear Components has started from India.

Prof. Sanjay G. Dhande, Dean – Research & Development of IIT – Kanpur informed about the CAD on Footwear by IIT but surprisingly it received very poor response. He said “ IIT has the concept designed for marketing and the institute is well equipped with Rapid Prototype technology, reverse coding and has all types of testing facilities for the research work. Mr Dhande assured of all supports and invited IFCOMA members to visit the IIT and initiate R&D work on component sector.

Shri Irshad Mirza congratulated IFCOMA and Mr Mishra of NLDP for the organizing the BSM and for the successful response. In his address the honorable Guest appreciated the approach of IFCOMA on R &D but was worried of financial resources for the research work needed with IIT and DMSRDE. He suggested “Central fund to the institutes for the Technology and Product development and assured to take initiative for such work.” He asked for speedy development & a need of group wise network for small & tiny industries to improve upon the national performance in the international market.

Mr. Mani Almal later thanked the participants and requested the honorable guests for lightning of lamp jointly and to declare the opening of the BSM.
