Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association ( IFCOMA ) made its another
remarkable display of BEST OF INDIA footwear components at the European most
popular Shoe fair 'GDS Leather and Components' Sept 99 in which India had the status
of" Partner country ".
Under the NLDP programme, IFCOMA earlier participated and displayed for the first
time at Lineapelle / Bologna 5-7" May 99 at Italy to create awareness of Indian product
range and the capabilities before the world trade. While "Lineapelle" is considered as
the most prefered fair for the display of the latest components, design and their
developments, the GDS at Dusseldorf however, is mainly attended for the buying and
selling of finished footwear in the past. The inclusion of Components at GDS will help
the shoe manufacturers and buyers to meet the component suppliers at the same time
in this major event .
" We are thankful to NLDP for the support and the excellent arrangement in the
participation at GDS for the first time in a big way. It is very important for the Indian
Component manufacturers to participate regularily in these fairs, create linkage and
confidence with the world players so that future development in India can be planned in
line with international requirements. However, for this, continious and liberal support
from NLDP and the Govt. is very necessary at this infant stage of component industries
having very potential in the world market . The growth of this sector could save imports
of components, help considerably in the Footwear exports and can be one of the major
export earner in future if it is explored by providing all needed assistance in the financial
and policy matters. " says Mr Mani Almal, president IFCOMA.
Indian Footwear components and accessories displayed at GDS were well received by
the large number of footwear manufacturers and buyers. In fact, it was an eye opener
. for them as looking surprisingly at the BEST OF INDIA footwear components and
accessories . Following companies participated and displayed their products in the well
decorated stand provided in the hall no. 14 of the messe. Indian stand '."ere next tc the
Indian fashion show area which also attracted large number of business visitors .

It is estimated that more than 100 customers showed serious interest in the Indian
components and some of the the shoe buyers were satisfied and assured to recomend
use of Indian components and accessories to the exporters.
"IGEP helped us a lot and made excellent arrangements at GDS Leather and
components fair. We are thankful to them " Mr Almal said.
It was latter discussed that IFCOMA should continue its participation at GDS to make
direct Interaction with the shoe buyers for promoting Indian Components. GDS fair is
the most important fair for the shoe manufacturers and buyers to visit and therefore
display of Indian Footwear Components will help create awareness and linkage directly
with them.
